2006 Official 20th Anniversary Gold Eagle Type set NGC MS70/PF70/RP70 – Cabral Signatures – Very rare!

This three-piece American Gold Eagle set was issued in 2006, for the 20th anniversary of the American Gold Eagles series. In the set is a Gold Eagle Proof coin along with two new coins not previously issued. The two new releases were the first-ever Burnished American Gold Eagle and the first-ever Reverse proof Gold Eagle. Each coin was struck at the WestPoint Mint and featured the W mintmark. All three coins have been certified in perfect 70 conditions by NGC and signed by Anna Escobedo Cabral, 42nd Treasurer of the United States.

Condition

Coins are graded on the Sheldon numeric grading scale of 1 to 70. To achieve the top grade 70, a coin must have no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification. The coins in this set have three different strikes, a proof strike, burnished strike, and reverse proof strike. Proof coins are the finest quality of coin produced by the United States Mint. The term "proof" refers to the coin's finish. Proof blanks are specially treated, hand-polished, and cleaned to ensure high-quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice. Proof coins are struck at least twice under intense pressure which gives them a frosted, sculpted foreground set against a mirror-like background. Reverse-proof coins feature an inverted proof finish. Only the background is frosted, and all other design elements are polished to the same mirror-like finish. Burnished coins are hand-loaded into the coining press and struck on specially burnished (sandblasted) blanks, yet have a soft, matte-like finish appearance.
