2017 -2022 Lion Dollars NGC PF70 – America’s First Silver Dollar
The Lion Dollar 1601-1693, was widely used in everyday commerce in Colonial America and is considered by numismatists to be America’s first silver dollar. The original coin is featured at the beginning of The Official Red Book coin guide to United States coins.
In 2017 for the 400th anniversary of the Royal Dutch Mint, the government made 5,000 official restrikes based on the original coins depicting a Dutch knight from the 16th century with a shield and coat of arms and a lion. The coins were produced with a high-quality proof strike using modern minting techniques. These coins proved so popular with collectors in Europe and North America that they have become an annual series.
