2021 $5 American Gold Eagle Type 2 PCGS MS70 First Day of Issue – Damstra Signature

Description

Due to the pandemic causing production issues, the U.S. Mint drastically reduced the first orders they received from dealers and delayed some shipments of the new Type 2 Gold Eagle coins for up to two weeks. Consequently, only a few of these historic new coins were able to be delivered to the coin grading service PCGS in time for them to qualify for the coveted First Day of Issue designation. The scarcity of these pieces is further compounded by fewer coins attaining the sought-after perfect MS70 grade than seen in previous years.

The U.S. Mint seldom change their coin designs, this is the first design change in thirty-five years! By Law, the new design must be issued for twenty-five years, creating a near once-in-a-lifetime collecting opportunity. We showcase the new 2021 $5 Gold Eagle Type 2 coin in perfect MS70 condition. Only 200 coins have been certified by PCGS as First Day of Issue and signed by Emily S. Damstra, one of the leading numismatic artists of our day, sporting forty design credits with the United States and Royal Canadian Mints. Her latest achievement is the new Type 2 American Silver Eagle design. Two of her coin designs have won Coin of the Year (COTY) awards. This rare First Day of Issue gold coin is worthy of inclusion in any gold coin collection.
