The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces wounded or killed by enemy action. Since World War I, an estimated 1.8 million men and women have received a Purple Heart.

Casey Jr, a four-star general who served as the 36th Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 2007 to 2011.
