The End of an Era at the San Francisco Mint.

Few dates in America’s story-board conjure up as much excitement as the important 1930-S Indian Head Eagle.

Once the ominous clouds of “Black Friday” made their way across the entire nation, gold coin production began to slow. What was produced was largely melted down when the Mint stopped producing gold coins altogether in 1933 at the request of Franklin Roosevelt.

The 30-S is one of the main key dates of the entire Series. Along with the 1920-S (the last S Mint struck before it) it is one of the most important dates not just in a $10 Indian Collection – but indeed, in an entire American gold collection.

We don’t get that many opportunities to acquire the date in any grade. Yet when we do, we always reserve it for the special individual in-mind who would like to be its custodian for years to come.
